Mansfield Choral Society presents a concert of Christmas music.

The programme will include:

Fantasia on Christmas Carols by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Jubilate by Bob Chilcott, plus a selection of Christmas music.

Two fashionable beaux, Archer and Aimwell, have fallen on hard times. Spending their fortune on gambling and drinking, they plan to travel through small towns, entrap young heiresses, steal their money and move on.

Their adventures in a quick twenty-four hours include flirting with the barmaid, making love to the wives and heiresses, fighting off the highwaymen and exposing the French.

This is Farquhar’s most beloved play, which dances between the comedy of situation, wit and manners.

Enjoy a traditional piece of theatre (with modern twists) lavish set design, flamboyant costumes, powdered wigs and pistols! Written by one of Ireland’s best writers, George Farquhar. Adapted and directed by Adam Pownall.

OFF THE AIR - FOR NOW

Mansfield Community Radio has, sadly, been unsuccessful in its bid for a 5-year broadcast licence.

The main reason OFCOM gave for the refusal was that our target audience conflicted with that of Mansfield 103.2.

Philip Smith, Mansfield Community Radio's station manager, said that although we were not given a licence this time round, OFCOM was in no doubt the team had the expertise to produce a radio station.

"We have been told some applications that went in on the first round and failed were successful in the second, so we are optimistic."

Community radio stations operate on a non-profit basis, and usually cover small areas.

Whilst waiting for the licensing decision from OFCOM, we at Mansfield Community Radio are busy updating our music library.

So, let us know your favourite artiste, type and style of music - even individual tracks - and we'll do our best to keep everybody happy when we go back on air.

While we're on the subject, Mansfield Community Radio will be discussing lots of issues that affect our district as well as regular features. Let us know what YOU are interested in - medical, legal, lifestyle, etc.

Don't forget, Mansfield Community Radio will be YOUR radio station, so the more input we get from you, the better and more satisfying our programming will be.
